Hey Hey Hey!!! A new one!!

Chart-leading ISP, NetDirect Supports U.S. Robotics' x2 56K Technology

NetDirect, the UK ISP which is currently second in Internet magazine's access provider charts for access times and availability*, plans to introduce U.S. Robotics' new high-speed x2 modem technology to its subscribers in the new year. This enables Internet connections at a speed of 56Kbps - nearly twice as fast as currently available over ordinary telephone lines.

x2 increases the top speed of a standard modem for downloading data from 28.8 or 33.6Kbps to 56Kbps, without the need for expensive new central office equipment. NetDirect, which already uses U.S. Robotics Total Control products to handle its subscriber dial-up access in the UK, will be able to upgrade to x2 on all its ports in the UK. The upgrade will be done by simply downloading new software to NetDirect's existing Total Control chassis.

x2 is the only end-to-end higher speed Internet access solution for both individual subscribers and service providers. The latest version of the UK's market leading modem, the U.S. Robotics Sportster Voice, now on sale can be upgraded to x2.

NetDirect provides 100% nationwide local-call access for individual subscribers and small-to-medium sized businesses, as well as other web services such as domain naming and publishing.

x2 technology is a trademark of U.S. Robotics.
