OFF TOPIC: Actually, Terry, in response to your El Presidente remark, presuming you're not talking about Dennis Martinez, the former major league baseball pitcher, here's my quick-skip political story.
I was elected into the NH's legislature twice as a Democrat, with the Distinguished Service Award. The Republicans outnumbered us three to one.
Interestingly, while in service as a Democrat, I received the Friend of Freedom Award from the Libertarian Party.
Because NH doesn't pay its legislators and it's mostly a voluntary service position, I couldn't afford, ecnomically, to run for a third term, unless I cozied up lobbiests who'd give me an easy slide, easy side job. I didn't and wouldn't do that.
So, as a way to get out of politics, and knowing I wouldn't win, I switched parties and ran for Congress as a Republican, taking the toughest issues I could find and putting 'em right smack dab into the belly of the beast, so to speak. NH, of course, traditionally is a Republican state. So I'm sure you understand.
So I've been around the block politically. My view today? It's not too different from then ('86-'90).
If Libertarians would appropriate money highways for automobiles... Democrats would give us tune-ups; Republicans would give oil changes; ----but what we really need is an overhaul!!!!
In reality, I'm one of the few people I've ever voted for that actually won! (LOL) |
