Tenschsatsu - Re: " I wouldn't count out the niche players. If they can fill in the gaps that Intel (and perhaps AMD) leave, they can find a nice small little fortune. "

Who is counting them out ? They are COUNTING THEMSELVES OUT !

Cyrix is near dead in the water - uncompetitive in performance and their low ball pricing isn't attracting any significant customers.

As for IDT - yes, they have a low power CPU - but low performance - and once again, they have attracted no significant customers.

Both NSM and IDT are piling up significant losses - as is AMD. You cannot discount this fact - these losses are going to result in fewer resources available to them to continue to "wage war" with Intel.

NSM and IDT have essentially eliminated themselves.

As for Rise - huh?

And just what are they going to bring to the table that is any better than NSM and IDT and AMD.

Perhaps RISE will use IBM for a foundry - a guaranteed ticket to vast fortunes - aka - Cyrix !
