New U.S. states tobacco settlement seen--analysts

NEW YORK, Sept 4 (Reuters) - Analysts at Sanford Bernstein & Co.
said late Friday that
sources close to the eight Attorneys General, Philip Morris Cos Inc.
(NYSE:MO - news) and
Loews Corp.'s (NYSE:LTR - news) Lorillard unit expect a $180 to $200 billion settlement by the
end of next week.

Gary Black and Jon Rooney said in a research report dated Sept. 4, that the settlement will include marketing
restrictions similar to the Minnesota settlement, with additional
bans on sponsorships and cartoons. They also said
the industry is
not expected to give up authority to the Federal Drug Administration, or be subject to lookback
penalties.

Philip Morris, makers of Camel and other leading brands, and Lorillard, the makers of Newport brand cigarettes, were
unavailable for comment late Friday .
