To All:

I called Amati today to ask a 9 million dollar question.

In the year end report, it states that the principle contract with
IBM expires in December 1996. With about 9M in revenues coming
from big blue, I was a little concerned about the short term impact
this could have on earnings and stock price.

Ron Carlini was nice enough to take my call. He wasn't sure at first
about the contract, but asked someone else (?) about it.
The business with IBM will continue as it has been.

I also asked about the royalties paid to Stanford. The amounts
are confidential. No surprise there but I thought I would try.
I asked if Amati has to pay fees to Stanford for modems that Amati
makes. His answer was "if their technology is used, then fees must
be paid".

Finally, I dropped Pat's rumor about the France Telecom shipments.
He had "no comment". (Thanks Pat for sharing that with us, a little
light in a dreary week. Coming from you, I consider it much more
than rumor)

Of course after I got off the phone, I thought of a zillion other
questions. Isn't that typical?

Over a week ago, I posted an article from Communications Week where
GTE had started a high speed internet service offering in Clearwater
FL. To follow up, I discovered that they are using Zenith cable modems. I do not think that it is the same business unit that is in
Irving, TX doing the ADSL trials. FWIW.

Thats just my 2 cents in a world trillions of dollars
(why can't I have more?)
