You say they are doing their thing in the SF Bay Area, well, I sure can't find any evidence that that is happening. The fall is here but the roll-out is in TCI's pocket. TCI is still waiting for more couch potatoes to go for the 500 - 600 channels premium before they live up to their promises.
You might be right and I hate it. I guess they figure that once ATHM is available people will subscribe to it instead of the special channel offer (most people can not afford both).
The only thing I have mentioned about roll-outs is that I get TCI in Berkeley and they run a great ad on cable for ATHM. Recently, this ad has had a banner across it saying "Coming Soon to Berkeley". I go to their web site, however, and do not see it listed as soon to be released.
It seems ATHM is doing the 680 corridor and working their way around the east bay small towns. Their posted list is:
Alameda, Antioch, Castro Valley, Dublin, Fremont, Hercules, Livermore, Pinole, Pittsburg, Pleasanton, San Ramon, Cupertino, Pleasant Hill, Rossmoor
The big news will be when they open a major city like Oakland/Berkeley or San Francisco - either one of which will provide over 500,000 available customers in a market primed for this kind of service.
Do you know if T or TCI has given a rough date as to when the merger might be complete? Maybe the reason we don't hear much is because they don't want to spook the deal. Any open discussion you make is fuel for those that want to argue against the deal. |
