This one shows comparison of Friday's closing price compared to the
highs of each stock for 1997 and 1995. The percent change is
computed using the 1997 high and Friday's closing price. The percent
change for the group is -70 percent. I added another line as well,
which removes the three stocks that did not have 1995 prices. This
shows the group down 72 percent.

In the bottom of the table there are 17 stocks with losses greater
than 75 percent. This means, of course, these stocks are less than
25 percent of their high value in 1997. Eight of those 17 stocks had
1997 highs that did not equal their 1995 highs.

Only one company, WJ, has not lost over 50 percent of its value
since 1997. Only 11 of the 41 stocks have not lost over two thirds
of their value since last year. The table shows how all of these
stocks move together. Even investing in the large cap stocks in the
group is no protection. When, and if, the group finally does
recover, every stock will increase in price. Just get out your dart
board to make your selection - no need to try and figure out which
one is the right one to pick based on merit.
