That's not what it's about, Don - it's about insurance and having one foot in reality and in observing that those powers-that-be who print all that paper would rather ignore reality. It's an old story - 'in every country of the world, I believe, the avarice and injustice of princes and sovereign states, abusing the confidence of their subjects, have by degrees diminished the real quantity of metal, which had been originally contained in their coins.'

Now there's none in the coin, zero. Nothing to keep them honest. We speak of it as paper, but as electronic entries supplant paper, 'money' will lose even that utility it might have had in one's ablutions.
