Here's a story about my father:
When he was a young man, he went out drinking with a friend. Driving home, Daddy's friend, who was at the wheel, drove very fast down a dark and unfamiliar street-- a dead end street which terminated in a high brick wall.
They saw the wall just a second before they smashed into it, and in this instant, Daddy's friend (who told me this story himself many years later), shouted, "We're done for!"
The impact was terrible, and the car was totalled, but the boys were both alive; and the first words spoken after the crash were from my bruised and battered father, who said, "Never use a preposition to end a sentence with." |
