Uranium Institute 23rd Annual Symposium

9-11 September 1998 London

ÿ
The Symposium is the leading annual event in the international nuclear fuel industry, attended by around 450 participants from some thirty countries. Attendees include delgates from all the major fuel cycle companies and organisations worldwide, as well as nuclear industry and energy analysts. For all those involved in the nuclear fuel business
or who analyse the nuclear industry, attendance at the Symposium is an essential annual fixture.

This year's Symposium will include the launch of the Institute's new Market Report, a major study of supply and demand in the uranium and nuclear fuel markets to 202. The main conclusion of the new report will be presented, together with other views on supply and demand.

Particular themes of this year's meeting will be radioactive waste management and the transport of nuclear materials. Both are key issues in the continuing public debate about nuclear power. Presenters will review the handling of various types of radioactive waste and progress being made towards final dispoal of high level waste. On transport, papers will highlight the broad range of nuclear materials transports routinely and safely undertaken by the industry.

The electricity generation business is being restructured in many countries to increase competition. This has important implications for nuclear plants. The Symposium will examine the likely impact on existing and future nuclear power projects. Other sessions will deal with uranium production, radiation and health, developing new nuclear
powerplants, fuel fabrication and other topical issues affecting the future of the nuclear fuel industry.
