Because of the stock price, it is hard to be defensive of INPR these days.
Well, if you're claiming that I'm kicking INPR just because it's down you're wrong, trust me.
Yet, as an experienced Delphi and C++Builder user since day 1 Delphi and C++Builder, it has been clear by your posts which were intended to be a technical criticism of the two products, that you have never used, much less installed those two products.
I was talking about JBuilder and if you want to read about the problems with Delphi read last weeks's PC WEEK (or the previous week's, I'm not sure). Does J look at all like C++ to you? How did you get Delphi (which I also own) out of JBuilder?
So be honest Rod and tell the truth (not a Clintonesque type truth), have you ever used JBuilder or are your criticisms simple regurgitations of what you have seen on the newsgroups?
I have told you more rather than less, sooner rather than later and everything I've said up to this point has been legally accurate. However, let me also say that I was subjected to that sub-alpha quality product (JBuilder, that's J as in Jihad) while porting instrument drivers to Java from C++. Not a dancing hippo on a webpage, but a relatively complex GUI with a JNI interface, multiple threads for each port, et cetera.
The bottom line is this: the product was so brittle as to be all but unusable for commercial development. If you want my personal opinion they should be sued for selling a product which doesn't even begin to approach reasonable expectations of stability. If they made cars like that there would be no traffic accidents because there would be no traffic. It's not a matter of fixing a few bugs, it is clear their is something fundamentally wrong with their process. I don't think they get it; I think they're pretending it's OK; I think they're making a big, big, big mistake in doing so.
I'm not going to use their products, period. I can't afford to, I don't need to. I would pay $10,000 for product that worked. It's not the cost of the tool. As for newsgroups, they tell people to install NT and add more memory. They tell them to document precisely what is causing trouble after being told, Hey, I have NT on a 300Mhz system with 256 megs of RAM and a multi-gigabyte hard-disk. Screw them, I'm not going to alpha test their product for them and I'm not going to waste my time with their worse-than-useless support.
Look, they have to face facts at some point and stop assuming that everybody who is complaining is just some whiner. That's how this company was brought to its knees in the first place and that's how they'll return. They need to focus on quality. I think Del actually believed the B.S. about Borland having better products but lousy marketing. FALSE! They had bad products, bad marketing and the worst support and collateral material you could imagine. I thought things had changed, I was premature in that thinking at best. |
