Interest rate reduction would have a mildly bullish impact on the equities markets.

The real problem I see is global deflation and widespread recession, stemming from Y2K, Asisan Contaigen, Russian Bear, Persian Gulf crises, and domestic political tumult. These influences will more than offset Greenspan's monetary policy intervention.

October is now commonly known as the month of mayhem, as defined by last yeas carnage, 1987, etc. etc.

It would not surprise me to see Dow 6900, which is another 10% drop from here. Look for a resumption of the bull market when we get several successive days of advances.

Confirmation of the advance needs to occur, and that is defined as a 1%+ advance in the Dow and/or Naz on heavy volume anywhere between Day #4 and Day #10 of the rebound.
