Internet in India.

Hi Chuck:

I suspect most if not all of the posters live in the U.S but I am sure they visit India often therefore should be familiar with what is going on there.

Internet in India is in its embryonic stage presently,I am afraid.
Cost:High,Rs.15,000.00 for 500 hrs ($1 =Rs 42.00),but recently VSNL
has reduced the price by 33%.

ISP:Currently run by VSNL a government monopoly but recently the government has allowed private ISPs to operate in India. This should hopefully bring the cost down as many companies, local and foreign, have applied for permission to operate private ISPs.

Dial-up cost. There is no dial up cost for people who live in most of the metros but there is a dial-up cost for those who connect from other areas.
