Most of Hatachi,s sales are in consumer products and are in Japan.All of this should have little affect on HDS and may if fact cause them to look harder in this area. There is tremendous competition on the consumer products area and the world mess will not help that. The information business is not as vulnerable and in many ways even more necessary today that ever.It is also not an easy field to enter and the biggest users are not that effected by this mess.I have been amazed for years that everyone gets so excited over the emerging markets. They will get there eventually but it is well down the road. First they need the infostructure to play. Without distribution systems, forget it. And I doubt that the first thing on the minds of the citizens of those countries is a Coke or hair gel. Maybe it is easy to sit on Wall Street or at home in front of a TV and get carried away, but if you spend a little time in research you come upwith a different feeling. These folks have a long way to go before they are a market. All the action benefits a very few and it sure doesn't trickle down. It is only though the uses of computers and communication that they can speed up that process. Low cost labor becomes less and less an asset. Real products require an educated work force, distribution and information systems and a ready market with stable governments. The places that are hurting don't have those and will have to get them to be players and consumers to deal with.
