What is $TICKQ that you mention? Is it similar to #TICK?

Regarding SPU, that is the symbol for S&P futures, for the contract in September. The $INDU usually tracks (follows) the futures movement, so come consider it a leading indicator intraday.

I believe some are now following SPZ8 now, the contract for December. The "8" behind the symbol indicates the year, in this case, 1998. So, the Sept 1999 S&P futures contract symbol would be SPU9. The symbol changes quarterly, and "H" is for March, "M" is for June, "U" is for September, and "Z" is for December.
