RIO DE JANEIRO, Brazil - With presidential elections less than a month away, voters see
President Fernando Henrique Cardoso as the most able candidate to handle an international
financial crisis, according to a poll published Sunday.

In the poll, 43 percent of voters thought Cardoso was the best candidate to handle a worldwide
financial crisis, while 18 percent thought Luiz Inacio da Silva, the far left candidate and
Cardoso's chief rival, would do a better job.

Seven percent named other candidates as more able, and 16 percent said none could handle a
dramatic economic slump. Sixteen percent had no opinion.

IBOPE polling firm questioned 2,000 voters. No margin of error was given. The poll was
published in the O Globo newspaper.
