Freddy, it did take centuries to work out fundamental Christian doctrine.

You need to read your own source more carefully; this is from your PBS site:

it was only in the second century that we begin to see the emergence of what we might call an orthodoxy, or something that might simply be called "Christianity" in a kind of uniform body of doctrines and text, that is to say the New Testament.

The second century is the 100s AD. Now, if even your chosen source is going to acknowledge orthodoxy in the 100s, you may want to abandon your claim of centuries of development or find yourself a more sceptical source. There are, of course, also arguments to be made for orthpdoxy existing from the first century.
