The components in an Imac might cost near $699 fresh off the production line, before costs of retooling said line, marketing, distribution costs, software licenses and so on. Say, just the marketing campaing adds $50-100 to each iMac.
Now, having worked for a computer company, they usually do not make available to their employees models that are under heavy demand. As an employee you have to wait until all customers got their computer before you can buy.
Now, I'm not saying the $699 cost of an iMac is not true, just that it is hard to believe, considering all other information (including Fred Anderson's statements). I would like to see more evidence of it before basing my investment decisions on it. |
