That X2 Winmodem; does the US Robotics website have a V.90 flash for it? I don't know if that was possible or not, but the Winmodem 28.8 I had could be upgraded to 33.6.

My personal experience with my Winmodem 33.6 internal by US Robotics was that it was the best and most reliable modem I have had to date. I ran it on a 486 DX2 66 and it worked great the whole time I used it. I have read and have been told that it ties up the CPU, but my experience was that it worked flawlessly and never seemed to impact my system performance. That said, I would keep what you have and then move to the cable modem when affordable and available since nothing can touch the speed of those. Keep the Winmodem as backup in case you have downtime with the cable modem; a real possibility since they are new systems.

The Winmodem was supposed to be for a Pentium, and yet it worked perfect on my 486; so go figure. Just like a lot of things that don't pan out as advertised, this one was better than advertised! I guess I have been swayed that the hardware types are better and would take one over the Winmodem, like I say, I could never see the difference. I guess it's like high end audio equipment.
