Penni,

I grew up in a South Texas town of 14,000. In the '50s my
grandmother, who lived in the same town, was a victim of a
phony termite inspector, to whom she gave a $75 check.
The con man made a beeline to the nearby First National Bank
to cash the check, but the teller was suspicious and showed
the check to the bank president. After summoning the con man to
his office and asking him a couple of questions, the bank president
took out his pen and wrote across the check . . No Good.

Growing up in a small town did indeed provide some interesting
memories.
