For those who are expressing renewed optimism following last night's Nikkei rally-- the NYTimes today reports that the government is using public pension fund buying of Nikkei 225 index futures to prop up the market, to keep it above 14k, before half-year book closing on September 30. Note that Obuchi took office explicitly renouncing this practice.
