Friday was interesting. The Dow was down nearly 200 points in late afternoon trading and surged back to close at -41. MINI held its ground throughout the day. My guess is that we could see a bounce on Tuesday given the global reaction to Greenspan's Friday after the close speech. Having said that, I still anticipate a test of last week's Dow and Nasdaq lows possibly hitting 7000 or lower. We are in for a lot of volatility, but MINI remains a solid long term opportunity. On another note, I received my MINI shareholder's proxy in the mail. We are being asked to vote on a proposal to "amend the company's 1994 stock option plan to increase to 1,200,000 the number of shares that may be issued thereunder." I guess what concerns me is that we are expanding the number of shares at the detriment to the ordinary shareholder. I agree that effective management should be rewarded, but not overly so. Looking through the latest annual report (1997) it is apparent that insiders/management own a preponderance of the outstanding shares. It appears that the Bungers and other insiders hold 68.1% of the shares. How much more do they want? The incentive to do well already exits; they have 68.1% of the company and if they expand into other markets they will reap increased rewards for doing so by virtue of their percentage stake in the company. I am hard pressed to see this as anything other than greed. I would be interested in hearing from other shareholders - both pro and con. Regards.
