>>Actually, Lieberman's strategy is a good one. By coming out and lambasting the President, he's set himself up to be the possible arbiter of the punishment Clinton should receive.

I heartily disagree. Lieberman's role has been played. As George Will stated with his characteristic eloquence, Lieberman is the consequential pebble that started the avalanche. Lieberman cannot undo what he has done and censure is simply not in the cards.

Will stated that in a real sense both the Reps and Clinton are largely irrelevant now to what will happen. He says watch the Dems in the House. You can infer that Will expects that Clinton will resign when he sees that his political support in Congress has collapsed. Everything depends on when they crack. And they will crack.

In that same vein, Cokie Roberts and Bill Kristol both alluded to soon to be released polls which show a marked shift in voter preference to the Republicans as a consequence of Clinton's serial lying and myriad scandals. Cokie also reported that the election is now turning to decidedly anti-Clinton themes, voters citing both integrity and morality as the #1 issue.

That implies that this election is being nationalized as a referendum on Clinton's fitness and that Clinton has the Dem party in a death embrace. She also noted that the Reps have a $37 million war chest which has yet to be spent. That $37 mil will be spent further nationalizing the election as the overarching theme is pounded home that voters must elect a Rep Congress to watch over an out of control Clinton and his corrupt administration. The air of inevitability will further help Reps to raise the $$$ needed to amplify their message.

Btw, Will pointed out that if weren't for the intense focus on the current crisis the public would be properly aghast at the wreckage Clinton has done to US interests throughout the world. He basically said that Clinton was not only a domestic enemy of the Constitution but that Clinton was also the greatest threat to our national security. Moynihan did not seem to take exception to those twin verities.
