If Ascend is to be acquired by LU come October - with presumably healthy premiums, why would most of ASND's senior managers unloaded tens of thousands of their option shares in the July period?

Jeffrey, my friend:

Because, if the LU acquisition of ASND goes through, then ASND executives are prohibited from selling for a period of several months (or years?). Perhaps someone can enlighten us on the SEC's rules in this regard.

As has been discussed here many times, ASND executives sell regularly. Look at the number of shares unloaded in the 20-30 range earlier this year. The insider selling has no bearing on what will happen to the stock. Mory Ejabat has more than 1.5 million shares and he is constantly getting more every quarter, so selling < 100,000 is very insubstantial in proportion to his total holdings.
