Metromedia International Implements FLEX Protocol Paging in Latvia EAST RUTHERFORD, N.J.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Sept. 8, 1998--Metromedia International Group, Inc. (AMEX:MMG) announced today that following several months of testing, its Baltcom Plus joint venture is now implementing the use of high-speed FLEX protocol paging on a nationwide basis in Latvia. FLEX is a high-speed paging protocol developed by Motorola. The FLEX protocol conserves the spectrum and has the capability to significantly increase the number of customers that can utilize the paging system. This technical enhancement will provide Baltcom Plus with significant growth opportunities, including the potential for two-way and voice paging. "The FLEX protocol is a powerful marketing tool that allows us to offer a variety of pager models at a lower cost with added features, including our Calling Party Pays service," said Walters Bajars, General Director of Baltcom Plus. "In addition, the FLEX technology now allows us to connect more customers to our network."
