Very interesting link Gustave. And it does point out the essential nature of the US/French relationship. But not in the manner the author intends. The author seems to have identified a mass movement to identify France as the 'other' that occurred during 1997. Funny but I lived in the US during that period and I don't recall any particular emphasis or focus on France. France doesn't come up in US discussions all that frequently. Discussions of Europe focus more on Britain and Germany. France if anything is thought of as a nice place to vacation despite with quaintly rude citizens. The French on the other hand seem to spend a lot more time focusing on their relationship to the 'Anglo-Saxon axis'.

This silly conspiracy theory that has the French bombing US embassies to warn US commercial interests from going after French interests in Africa. ROFLMAO. Why would we care that much about commercial interests in Africa. It is probably one of the poorest regions on earth. They're welcome to it. A perfect illustration of French preoccupations. On the one hand they concoct fanciful conspiracy theories about battling US interests in their empire. A gallic version of the great game. On the other hand they have been eagerly trying to get the colonial French franc linked to the Euro so that they can gat the rest of Europe to help pay for supporting the link. Very French.
