Ut oh MSFT's Gates worried about IBM - why not the DOJ ?

Monopolistic arrogance comes in many flavors and here MSFT the world's largest vendor of software aims to eliminate IBM competition:

" They've (MSFT) seen off Netscape, they've seen off Novell. They're now aiming at IBM," Gantz said, ..."

A smooth talker , might explain why MSFT's lawyers did not include Gates as a witness in the DOJ defense .

Then again maybe Gates sees his monopoly crumbling:

" Sun does not need Java because they are a single platform company. IBM needs Java...Of the two companies, they are the ones more likely to make Java successful," he said.

Earlier this summer, IBM opened a distinctly casual office on DeAnza Boulevard, across the street from Apple Computer and a few buildings away from some Sun offices. "

PS: Interesting that AAPL intends to use IBM's new 400 mz PowerPC 750 as a "G3 MPU" , a SMP/JAVA server ?
