A "Title" issue, just FYI: specifically, about the title of our upcoming first film -- "Freak Talks About Sex"...
First, let me explain that I'm a longtime "lurker" and a substantial shareholder in NSKY -- but this is my first actual post on SI. So please be gentle...
I don't recall hearing about this before, so thought it worth mentioning here. There was a half-page display-ad in the entertainment section of my local paper this past weekend, for a new independent film called "Let's Talk About Sex" -- which is set to open in limited-release THIS FRIDAY (about 200 theaters nationwide, to start), and may move into wider-release sometime later.
It's being distributed by "Fine Line Features" and is a "Sphinx/Island Digital Media Production." The cast and crew (director, etc.) are basically all unknowns. A small item in a local show-biz column also mentioned this film -- saying that it deals with modern-day relationships and dating, from the female point of view.
In fact, the AD even gives the WEBSITE for this film : www.flf.com (leave out the "http" part) -- where you can read more about it, and even see the ad-photo of the three young women who apparently are the focus of the movie.
Although it's not unusual for films with somewhat-similar titles to appear within a few years of each other, it does seem that if (as we all hope) "Freak" sees-the-light-of-day early next year, it could be a little close-for-comfort to this other film whose title is SO similar. So I'm wondering if there's any thought being given to changing the title of "Freak" (which I've personally always found off-putting, anyway)?
Since several people on this thread are in pretty regular contact with the folks at NSKY, maybe one of you would care to ask about this during a future phone-call or e-mail to the company-honchos -- and then let the rest of us know if the matter's come to their attention, and if they have any thoughts about it.
Anyway, I thought folks here might at least have an interest in hearing about this other film with the oddly-familiar title...
