Jim,

Pretty ghastly, but "in for a sen in for a yen" (old bushi saying). The whole problem of guaranteed returns has driven Japanese investors into speculation in American securities to get the earnings. Check out the dividend capture practices of J life insurance companies.

Of course it may not be as bad as it looks. Much of the money spent on stocks is "gone" but you can see the stocks there under the water.
