Hi Stephen, Re: BLS action, your message is clear enough.
These kinds of things [the BLS statements] seldom occur in a vacuum, they are often thought out well in advance with tons of legal advice, and there is usually consensus among classmates before they are released. So, I think it would be safe to expect a sampling, if not a flood, of similar positions taken by the other interested parties in short order.
In some perverse way, these kinds of actions taken by the incumbents may result in a number of backlashes, IMO, on several strata:
They may, for example, accelerate the Internet community's resolve to create a bypass of the status quo system by various means, many of which have been talked about here.
They could redirect the market focus away from domestic, and towards the International, for those who have not yet taken flight in this manner, yet.
And they may do something else that is even more important, namely, they may once and for all add credibility and legitimacy to the art form known as VoIP as a viable option for calling long distance. Or this may be, as some have suggested, nothing but bell vapor.
