ENSCO Vessel Sinks in Gulf of Mexico

DALLAS, Sept. 8 /PRNewswire/ -- ENSCO International Incorporated (NYSE: ESV) announced that one of its large anchor handling tug supply vessels, the ENSCO Kodiak II, sank on Monday, September 7, 1998, while supporting drilling operations for a customer in the Gulf of Mexico approximately 180 miles south of New Orleans in 4,300 feet of water. All ten ENSCO crew members and seven third party contract personnel on board the vessel were safely rescued. The 17 personnel were taken to the hospital for examination and have now been released, with two having sustained only minor injuries. The cause of the accident is currently under investigation. The Company expects that the vessel will be declared a total loss, which is fully covered by insurance.
