The 5/8/98 one [in my current partition after installing IE] is 452KB -- version 4.72.3110.1.
Interesingly, clicking on 40comupd.exe returns 'this system does not need this update' -- guess I.E. already did the dirty work ;)

The one in my pre-IE sp_3 is 302KB, version 4.70 with a mod date of 4/30/97. [You can check version by left-click -> properties.]

Will be interested in what you find when&if the new version arives -- changing a single file seems relatively painless.
