iMac Ad campaign Down Under:
"Tuesday 8 September 1998
Billboard coverage a sign of the iMac times
A SERIOUS outbreak of iMac fever has hit Australia, boosted by an epidemic of the Think Different advertising campaign that has hit Australia.
More than 100,000 copies of iMac Apple News have been posted out and 25 huge billboards advertising the iMac have gone up around the country. A 25-metre monster now stands on the highway between the international and domestic terminals at Sydney Airport and others are in prominent positions in Melbourne, Perth, Adelaide, Brisbane and principal regional cities. They push the message: "I think, therefore iMac."
A barrage of press advertising will begin this week, adding to the blizzard of 100,000 "movie tickets" mailed out, inviting the public to "iMac Day" demonstrations at main Apple Centres and resellers around the country.
Later this month a series of television advertisements will begin. Until then, the word is being spread through giveaways on talk shows.
On the Today show more than 50,000 registrations were recorded from TV viewers trying to win one of six iMacs being given away. The best the program had recorded before the iMac event was 200,000 registrations for a four-wheel drive vehicle and caravan, and they took a month to get."
