Consider this scenario: a witness testifies under a promise of anonymity in a criminal case. The defendant is, however, subsequently acquitted. The defendant, desiring revenge, sues the anonymous witness for defamation claiming the testimony to have been false. By your reasoning, the judge will routinely grant the motion to unmask the anonymous witness.

Anonymity does not mean, "until someone decides they don't like what you say". Establishing sufficient cause to force Yahoo to renege on their privacy policy is not trivial. You have an interest in this fact too, my friend, unless you wouldn't mind if someone were to post your home address and phone number all over these boards.

IANAL, but IMHO they don't have that kind of case. "Blind" and "incompetent" are pretty mild epithets for the Yahoo boards. Bill Gates has been called far worse things even here on SI.

Furthermore, IMO the sort of company that pursues these kinds of lawsuits is the sort that has an excessive interest in its day-to-day stock price and/or way too much time on its hands (time apparently not spent marketing and/or developing products and services).

As for the law firm. "AV"=BFD. There are exactly three rankings for law firms and no one ever admits to having the one of other two.
