Update from Salomen Smith Barney

09/08/98 Pfizer (PFE $95.37,1-M,Tgt $155.00) Christina Heuer --SUMMARY:--Pfizer--Drugs
* On Sep 4 PFE sold off $5 after Morgan Stanley cut Viagra sales estimates and PFE rating to Neutral from Outperform.
* Viagra's unusual sales curve (explosive early spike followed by steady decline) has been troubling, but we are not ready to "throw in the towel"
* Viagra scrip growth moved sideways in Aug, growth could rekindle in fall
* Viagra's European launches in 4Q98E, Japanese launch in 2Q99E should boost 1999 sales from $800 MM level in 1998E ($409 MM 2Q98A).
* Unlike "lifestyle" drugs for obesity, hair growth, Viagra really works.
* PFE's 1999E new drug intros (CELEBRA, dofetilide, eletriptan) and lack of major generic risk indicate Viagra's effect on PFE should not emulate that of EVISTA on LLY which has few other new drugs & Prozac generic risk
