Carole,
Had the same problem when I close down the programs to rapidly. Give a few moments for each to complete it's shutdown.
Found a easier way, save all your work then reboot the computer! I do this everyday.
AOL users hint.... run quote.com as a background program, you'll never see "Do you want to stay online" again.
