If it's not in the telephone line try this. Go to the windows 95 help menu, look up modem troubleshooting (see below). Check that your maximum speed is set correctly. Your maximum might be set @9600

Check your modem speed

1 On the Call menu, click Disconnect.

2 Click here to display Modem properties.
3 Click the General tab, and then click the modem you are using.
4 Click Properties. Make sure the Maximum Speed is the highest that can be used by both your modem and the remote computer's modem. (If you are not sure of the maximum speed to use, contact that computer's administrator.)
