Re: " wouldn't a responsible large money manager try to increase cash " A good majority cannot hold cash for long they MUST invest by their own bylaws. Of course they can switch funds around which is probably what is going on right now. All that cash MUST be re-used very shortly and those who are guessing otherwise by shorting will have to rush to buy on the way up. IMO it is the foreigner's who are liquidating due to fears of their own economies and our bond market (short term betters) is getting the cash which of course only leads right back to the stock market eventually.
