Take a look at the September 10 issue of the New England Journal of Medicine (Vol. 339, page 713-732). There are three reports on the incidence of heart valvular defects in association with appetite-suppressant drugs. All show that there is indeed an increase incidence of valve pathology in patients taking these medications, but the incidence is not as high as originally reported. There are also a couple of editorials/correspondences on the topic.
