Company Press Release

Detroit Police Department Orders TouchPrint 600 Live-Scan Systems, TouchPrint 602 Card-Scan Systems

Orders Valued in Excess of $1 Million

SUNNYVALE, Calif.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Sept. 9, 1998--Identix Inc. (ASE:IDX), a leading provider worldwide of live-scan and biometric verification systems, Wednesday announced that the Detroit Police Department has ordered TouchPrint 600 live-scan systems and TouchPrint 602 card-scan systems.

The orders are valued in excess of $1 million. The systems will be employed throughout the Detroit P.D.'s metropolitan divisions and precincts to help enable the department to be, as Deputy Chief John A. Clark said, ''well-positioned technologically to address the issues and concerns associated with law enforcement.'' The company expects to recognize the revenue from this order in its quarter ending Sept. 30, 1998.

The department anticipates the same online experience with the TP-600 live-scan systems reported by other law enforcement agencies nationwide: processing time savings, overall cost reduction and improved accuracy in processing criminal and suspected criminal fingerprints.

The TP 602 systems are expected to enable the department to convert conventional inked prints to an electronic form that substantially speeds identification and archiving with the same high degree of accuracy.

Identix Chairman, President and Chief Executive Officer Randall C. Fowler commented, ''The use of our live-scan technology by Michigan's largest metropolitan law enforcement agency is a further affirmation of our position as the leading company worldwide in live-scan installations.

''Detroit now joins more than 20 other Michigan law enforcement agencies on the growing list of major metropolitan police and sheriffs' departments employing our leading-edge technology.''

Identix is a leader in designing, developing, manufacturing and marketing system solutions for the capture and/or comparison of fingerprints for security, anti-fraud, law enforcement and other applications.
