PRI Automation receives multi-million dollar order from major
domestic semiconductor manufacturer

BILLERICA, Mass.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--December 19, 1996--

Recurring Business Remains Strong for Global Automation Leader

Pri Automation Inc , a world leader in developing, marketing and implementing full-factory automation systems for
semiconductor manufacturers, announced today that it has received another multi-million dollar order from a major
domestic semiconductor manufacturer. PRI will expand an existing full-factory automation system at a fab in the
Southwestern U.S. The order consists of stockers and AeroTrak overhead monorail for the interbay transport and
storage of work-in-process, and Machine Loading Robot Vehicles (MLRVs), an intrabay automation solution. PRI
expects installation to take place by the third quarter of 1997.

"Recurring business accounted for approximately one-third of the Company's total revenue in 1996, and was one of the
reasons that PRI continues to buck the recent slowdown in the semiconductor industry," said Mitch Tyson, PRI's
President and Chief Operating Officer. "We've captured over 90% market share in the U.S. and Europe and over 30%
in the Pacific Rim, and every full-factory automation system that PRI has sold has later been expanded."

PRI's Chief Financial Officer John Schickling added: "Because PRI's systems are modular and can accommodate any
fab layout, it's easy for semiconductor manufacturers to add more automation in stages, as this particular company did."
