<<Guess Intel hasn't "mistepped".>>

Yes they have made plenty. You just don't think about it.

#1) Intel (or I would say Andy) missed the sub $1000 market totally and was late to introduce the Celeron.

#2) The first Celeron was a failure.

#3) Intel abandoned Slot1 in favor of socket 370 on Celeron systems.

#4) Intel is very late to introduce their 3DNOW CPU.

#5) Intel had to go to larger silicon area to compete with K6-2.

#6) Intel is late to introduce the 300MHz notebook. AMD has had the K6-300 introduced 2 months ago.

#7) Intel allowed AMD to penetrate the retail market. In less than 1 year AMD has gone from 0% to 38%.

#8) Intel reported lower in unit CPU sold Q2 compared to Q1.

#9) Intel miscalculated the demand of PII-266 and PII-300. Thus AMD is picking up the lack in that area.

#10) CeleronA is not quite fully ramp (probably you took too much vacation time instead of helping out in the photo room) and there is a big shortage of CeleronA. Thus AMD is again picking up the slack.

#11) MMX is a big blow in Intel face.

As a friendly advice, you should cover your AMD shorts quickly. Very big news are coming.
