What exactly are you perplexed by? His strength, or that he would actually do that? In sports, players slap each other on the butt, they dog-pile on the pitchers mound, they carry the "hero" on their shoulders. The guy was ecstatic! If you knew who the player was on the other team, you'd understand why he picked that person up also. I'm not clear on what you are perplexed by.
