I use to do some VAR work with Informix, and was
fond of it as a company. But I don't think it
can recover from the criminal mismanagement it
endured. IUS was the tip-off for me. IFMX told
the world that it was "shipping", when those of
us in the trenches knew this was a lie. And those
lies, as we subsequently learned, were systematic
through the firm. Lots of supporters got burnt.

Current management is better, but still they are
losing people. Most of my acquantences there have
left, and those who remain are planning to jump.
On the sales side I've heard real negative
stuff. Apparently to run domestic sales they
brought in some loser from 3Com named Wes Raffel,
who alienated many of the best people. Caused lots
of damage before getting canned. It's these kinds
of mistakes IFMX can ill afford to make.

On the technical side, their products are still good.
The Java stuff they're doing is particularly
impressive. But personally I doubt it will
be enough to pull them out. Perhaps they should
sell the firm, but who would want to buy them?
