The drama in this is that while this case means little to Mitsubishi, it means a great deal to Ampex. AXC has, as we know, and extensive, and in many cases seminal, patent portfolio. Many probably use their patents without even knowing it. They simply cannot afford to take on the world in litigation in the new digital age. What is at stake here is the perceived as well as practical worth of their patents - wounded by KM's failure and the failure to develop any new products in several years. A victory means they can take this decision to other companies. It bolsters the royalty stream, and in my opinion, makes AXC more attractive to any prospective acquirer - if it should ever come to that.
