<<The reality is that, for whatever reason, Americans as a whole like the laws the way they are, with minor exceptions such as parental notification. If more people wanted abortion to cease, abortion would become socially unacceptable, a course far more effective than making it illegal.>>
Oh, I think the issue of abortion goes much deeper than you're expressing. An overwhelming majority of Americans oppose partial birth abortion, abortion for sex selection, abortion as a form of birth control. The pro-abortion folks happen to be the most vocal when they yell that pro-lifers do not care about the jeopardy to the mother's life. That's pure nonsense. The feminist never met an abortion they didn't embrace. They use that "life and health of the mother" to justify murdering their own flesh and blood! If a woman wakes up today depressed and decides "I just don't want this baby anymore", she can use that as an excuse to kill that child that had nothing to do with her depression. This is where most people are repulsed by abortion.
What these feminist do not want you to know about is the post abortion stress many of these women go through. Check out your local Pregnancy Support Center and see how large the support groups are for women that are dealing with the guilt of having aborted their child. Most will tell you that they never would have done it if someone would have counseled them on alternatives, or if there had been a waiting period so that they would not have been able to make that "spur of the moment" decision. Many did not know there was financial help to see them through their pregnancy or that couples are waiting years to adopt.
Most Americans think the government shouldn't weigh in on the issue, either way. It should be up to the individual states. Most Americans also do not want their taxes paying for abortions, and even more so, they resent their taxes being spent for abortions in other countries.
When you intentionally stop a beating heart, it's murder, whether it's a 4 week old fetus or an 84 year old cancer patient. |
