gbh, I don't think so. I'll bet that there is a substantial short position in TLAB to reflect the possibility that the merger, even on a more reduced basis will go forward. I don't think there is a corresponding long position in CIEN. I think this merger will go through, but both Birck and Nettles are getting the message loud and clear that 0.8 is an excessive ratio. This latest body blow to CIEN is important because underscores a marketing weakness. So ultimately, what TLAB is really buying is technology. Now I asked the question sometime back, and nobody could give me a quantitative answer, but let me try it again. Tellabs shareholders will be asked to give up a little over $1 billion in exchange for Ciena's technology plus some other assets. How much is that technology worth, and how do you value it?
