I agree John,

Russia has huge reserves of oil and gas especially. Since oil prices are low now, the conventional wisdom is that oil is cheap and always cheap. How soon people forget the oil crisis of the 70's and the Iraq war. Oil and gas are very valuable and not manufacturable. Some day Russian stocks will be valued to reflect this. Also, Europe is still growing fast. Russia's immeadiate neighbors in Europe will need more oil and gas. Europe will want to import goods into Russia.
You can also add that Russia does have educated people. Its people are tough and used to hardship. There is a manufacturing base in the military items.
in short, Russia is not Indonesia and should not be valued that way once the political situation improves.
