<< COMS is getting a strong foot into backbone terroritry, something they said they didn't want to do since it's "inside the edge" strategy is a big wide open field as it is...and COMS doesn't want to collide to much with CSCO at this point in time.>> Joe - CB9000 is targeted for enterprise space - here 3Com has always gone after the core - the 9000 is an important part of this effort. The carrier space is where 3Com is targeting the edge - as of now they will not be competing for core ATM/IP switches against Ascend, Newbridge, Cisco, etc. The edge includes dial access, xDSL, Cable head end, and VOIP, along with broadband access. COMS has great position in China across all four markets - carrier, enterprise, small office, consumer.
