SRAM suppliers are facing a fickle market for level 2 cache chips, leading some in the industry to wonder if the technology in its discrete form might be headed for the rubble heap of history. Projecting full-scale integration in future PC processors, write EBN's Andrew MacLellan and Mark Hachman, several observers said the momentum for embedded cache will build with the advent of 0.18-micron process technology and accelerate through the next decade.
